植樹節是按照法律規定宣傳保護樹木，并組織動員群眾積極參加以植樹造林為活動內容的節日。按時間長短可分為植樹日、植樹周和植樹月，共稱為國際植樹節。提倡通過這種活動，激發人們愛林造林的熱情、意識到環保的重要性。

中國的植樹節由凌道揚和韓安、裴義理等林學家于1915年倡議設立，最初將時間確定在每年清明節。1928年，國民政府為紀念孫中山逝世三周年，將植樹節改為3月12日。新中國成立后的1979年，在鄧小平提議下，第五屆全國人大常委會第六次會議決定將每年的3月12日定為植樹節。
